First off belated Happy Thanksgiving all! :)
This has been a pretty good holiday thus far. Thursday I spent the whole day doing nothing and it was awesome. :D A whole day in pajamas playing XBox is total win. I got through Assassin's Creed 2 which was a great experience. There are a couple of problems that persist from the first game (sometimes touchy controls, the missions are still same-y though they did try to address this), but they're forgivable since so much more time was given to character development. Ezio's cool.
Yesterday was black Friday and I actually got up and gave it a go. Mind you, I hate shopping and I love sleeping so Black Friday is a bad mix for me. My brother came with and, while we got almost nothing accomplished because I had to work and couldn't wait on the ridiculous lines, we did manage to snag one of the PS3 bundles at Gamestop. I haven't played it yet since I feel like I'd be cheating on my 360, but I will eventually. I mean... only for Soul Reaver over the PSN, cause you know how much I love that game and it's not available on the 360... that's why... *ahem* Though it may take a bit to get to that since I have to start both Modern Warfare 2 and Lego Indy 2 (whew... opposite sides of the spectrum there!) as well as go back to other games in my backlog.
Today, as usual, is about DnD. I think tonight's going to be the last session of this campaign, which I'm happy and sad about. It'll be cool to see a campaign come to its conclusion, but I'm going to miss this character like crazy.
And then tomorrow is capped with more work. Boo. :P
Oh, totally unrelated to Thanksgiving, a friend recently sent me a Google Wave invite. I haven't had the chance to play with it much yet, but I do have something like 8 invites to send out. Anyone want one?
Hope you all have had a wonderful weekend! :)

I played as much Lego RB as I can handle this weekend. The game, as I mentioned earlier, is actually surprisingly good especially considering that it's essentially a glorified trackpack. There is one song that I absolutely love and that's The Coral's "Dreaming of You". It has definitely lodged itself firmly in my brain. I'd never heard of the band before, and I don't know that I feel inclined to discover much more about them, but this one track is yay.
Just finished watching FlashForward (didn't have time Thursday) and I'm so happy they finally did something that directly contradicts the FlashForwards people saw. Next week's preview looked a little meh, but it's hard to capture an hour episode in 30 seconds, I suppose.
I'm getting so close to being healthy again. Pretty much just missing my voice now and coughing a little. Much better than the fever and all that other messiness earlier in the week!
Got some fun stuff coming up. I'm meeting a friend from college Thursday to go to Junior's (it's a cheesecake place) and then Friday I think I'm going to Barcade. Liz and Leo are coming in for Thanksgiving, so we're going to attempt black Friday shopping. The MST guys are doing another RiffTrax Fathom Events thing on December 16th, so I'll be checking that out.
Oh, and some slightly bad news. My trusty Jansport backpack bit it this week. One of the straps broke. :/ I'm still using it for the moment, but it's nearly a decade all, so perhaps it's time to move on. Now I finally have an excuse to get a Rock Band Branded messenger bag. ;)
Hope you're all having a good weekend so far! :)

I really dislike being sick. It's not so much the sickness itself that's bothering me at the moment. It's the fact that this is the second day in a row I've been up before 7:30AM because my sinuses feel like they're trying to tear out of my skull. -_- *sigh* I really wish I actually had sick days since I would probably take today off as well, but I don't, so my coughing, sneezing, and mostly miserable self will be at work today. :/ At least there's FlashForward tonight. That should be enough of an incentive to get through work. ;)
Got Lego RB Tuesday (but no keychain. :/ The guy at the store claimed they had given them all out already, but his reaction to the question of 'where my pre-order goodie at?' told me he wasn't quite being truthful. He didn't even know where the game was being kept in the store, but he automatically knew all the keychains were gone? Really?) and the game is actually pretty good. The setlist contains more unfamiliar tracks than I thought which is a little disappointing. For a 45 song expansion pack, though, you could do worse. My major problem is it has no online connectivity which I'm guessing has something to do with the fact that it carries Microsoft's "family game" branding, but is still annoying. It's amusing to me that you can play most of your DLC in Lego:RB, but the ones deemed inappropriate for the kiddies won't show up. I get a song like Down With the Sickness not being playable, not that it would be anyway since RB2 songs aren't exportable to Lego RB, but the point is, the lack of that song would make sense. I don't get Headphones On (which is by some kid on Nickelodeon) not being playable. All that aside though, if you're looking to expand your RB2 track collection (and I'm really not sure why I am at this point since there are still so many songs I've never played), you could do a whole lot worse than Lego:RB.
Alrighty, enough laying around hoping sleep might work its way back into the picture. Better start getting ready for the day.

I saw an ad on the subway today for the new Resident Wii-vil game. You know, I'm all for the more universal appeal of games, but the ad really struck me somehow. Now, I was going to make a comment about how maybe RE *shouldn't* be marketed to the Peggle crowd, but seeing as I too belong in the Peggle crowd, that sentiment would be horribly hypocritical. So yeah.. RE on the Wii. Pass.
Brutal Legend, on the other hand, was a definite not pass. I really enjoyed the game, though I felt the ending was a little weak. Won't get into any detail in case any of you are going to play it though. :)
I had an interesting dream a couple of nights ago that myself and a friend (I don't really know who the friend was, other than it was a he) had opened a successful business called "Hero For A Day" where we basically ran parties where the birthday boy/girl/man/woman could choose from one of over 40 scenarios we had and, along with our employed actors, play out the scenario for their party. There was way more detail than that, but I'm too lazy to type all that. I'm still dreaming alot though, which is interesting I think.
Video Games Live was amazing. They pretty much played everything I'd want to hear. Final Fantasy, Chrono Trigger, Mega Man, Zelda, Mario, Shadow of the Colossus (!!)... amazing. They also played music for Metal Gear Solid, Halo (complete with someone costumed as Master Chief), Diablo 3 and WoW. Definitely glad to have had the time to go there. :)
On Friday, I met with a friend from Buffalo and had dinner. It was really nice to get to reconnect! I miss you all in Buffalo. Hopefully I'll get to visit soon!
I'm going to see Paranormal Activity on Saturday, I think.
But only after I pick up Lego:RB on Tuesday! :D
Oh, and the person that's going to be my housemate found another person to join us, which is awesome! My mom found a place in the paper that, were we able to make the move today, would not only be in a nice neighborhood, but would run us under $400 a month! Whoo! :D
^^^^^ See that sorta random disjointedness? That's the way my head's been lately. It's a little irritating. o_O
Anywho, all's generally well, and I hope all is well with you as well. :)

I registered for PAX East today. :D :D :D
This is my first time going to a gaming convention and I'm really excited, even though it's way off in March.
If you're looking to register, just follow the link:
http://www.paxsite.com/paxeast/registration.php
It's $45 for the three day pass. Not too bad, I'd guess.
I'm totally heading over to the HMX booth as soon as I get a chance. :D
So, if any of you guys are really, really gonna go, let me know so I can start figuring out hotels and such (if you want to split costs).
And tonight I'm off to see Video Games Live again. Whoo!

Oh my goodness, so much Rock Band goodness today.
I pre-ordered Lego RB yesterday. I figure its got a decent enough setlist that I can export and the other play modes might be fun. Plus, I get a Lego RB keychain (erm... anyone possibly want a Lego RB keychain? I'll likely just lose it, hehe).
The Beatles: RB's first major DLC dropped today. Abbey Road's Medley is so very much fun to play and I'm logging on in a bit to hopefully find a full band that has the album so we can play some new tracks.
Also got the Queen pack today. Played a couple of the tracks on guitar, but have yet to sing anything. Soon... soon.
Then, I very nearly bought the iPod Rock Band this afternoon since I was thinking "Well, it's too dark to read my book out here while waiting for my bus, so it might be very, very cool to be able to just play RB RIGHT NOW!"
But I stopped myself. Or, more accurately, my lack of 3G wireless stopped me. ^^;;
And in totally unrelated news, one of the girls I game with is an amazing artist and drew a picture of our characters' battle on Sunday. Just thought I'd share:

Cool, huh? :)

[19 Oct 2009|11:41am] |
So this was a busy weekend!
Friday at work was actually pretty light, so I took care of some of the more administrative stuff I've needed to take care of. I had a meeting with the director that went really well, so I was in a pretty good mood most of the day. :)
On Friday after work, I went into Brooklyn to meet my brother and his friend to go to Barcade and then get some food. Unfortunately, I got there late and they had already done the Barcade so we just went over to the diner instead. Afterwords, we went to the Dunkin Donuts near my place and played a fairly quick session of Exalted, which turned out to be more fun than I anticipated. I'm not really good at being the ST/DM, but I think it went alright and we all had a good time, so yay!
Then Saturday I went to my normal DnD game (which I have very little recollection of for some reason... something about dog-sledding and my character hurting most of the party pretty badly when a spell went awry). I left there early and met my brother in Manhattan so we could head to New Jersey for a board game/ Rock Band meet-up. It was actually a really good time! I played some board games I'd never heard of before (Zombies!!! and Dominion) and one I had heard of before (Scattegories) and then got to (not really) impress people with my RB drum skills (someone actually asked if I was a drummer not in the video game context, hehe). One of the guys there invited me to an Invader Zim showing he's doing this Wednesday, but I can't go which sucks 'cause I love Invader Zim. Ah well. Then, after a 3 and a half hour commute home that featured going the wrong way on the PATH train and a 40 minute wait for the A train, we finally got home around 5 in the morning.
Sunday I slept till 11, got up, ate, and then headed out to my third table top gaming event of the weekend, an all girls gaming group in uptown Manhattan. This game is best defined as absolutely insane. We fought a zombie Lavarr Burton (but don't worry, we didn't kill him, hehe) and rescued an entire PBS station while acquiring the Necronomicon. Gaming is certainly different with an all girl group. Everyone worked together, asked a lot of questions, and we had chocolate fondue with pretzels and fruits as a game time snack (look, ma! no Cheeto dust!). ;) After a ridiculously long commute home for the second night in a row (2 hours and 15 minutes from uptown to Queens! Ridiculous!!) I got home and passed out at 11:30, waking up again at 10 this morning.
So yeah, much stuff happening! I don't think I'll plan another weekend like this for a long time though. I really had half a mind to call out today so I could just be lazy, but that's not a good enough reason especially when I already have two short days coming up this week.
I'd actually better start getting ready to go. Later, folks! :)

So, couple quick updates:
-I have a meeting with the campus director Friday. I've been told it's just a department heads meeting (gah... there are times where I don't like being a department of one!), but I can't help but feel like I'm going to be told something terrible. When did I get so paranoid? -_-
-I haven't been dreaming quite every night in the last week, but I have been doing so more often than not. I'll spare the details though. :)
-While waiting for the bus today, some guy walked up to me, introduced himself and asked if I was married. Was that supposed to be flattering? :P
-There's possibly going to be a Rock Band Queen? I'm not going to have the time for other game genres if this keeps up.
-Speaking of games, I started Brutal Legend last night. I'm really enjoying it so far. It's like Jak and Daxter with a Tim Schafer personality. No problems there!
-Also speaking of games, but now the table top variety, I was invited to play in a girl gaming group on Sunday, so I will be doing that. The game takes place in 1987 and I play a character that unsuccessfully tried to attack president Reagan with a Samurai Sword. Good times!
( And now, the meme! ) Hope you're all doing well. :)

Dearest Subconscious-
Hi, it's me, the conscious self. I just wanted to pick a bone with you over the recent dreaming situation.
I get it, I get it. There's some deeper issue I probably need to address, but dreams wherein my clearest recollections involve green umbrellas and blue marbles aren't very helpful. So, if there's something I need to work on, could you please just send me a clearer picture? I'm not very good at interpreting things.
-Thank you kindly!
Anywho, finally saw last week's FlashForward today. So good. Wonder why it is that the guys from Harold and Kumar seem to die in their television shows, though? :P
I finally have all the achievements in Beatles:RB that I can get without 3 people or drum skills, so I suddenly find myself wanting to play something else, but I'm not sure what. Maybe I should return to Arkham Asylum? Or I can just wait another week to start Brutal Legend.
I'm just about done reading The Color of Magic (the first discworld novel) and I'm not sure whether or not I want to keep going with Pratchett or move on to something else.
Tomorrow is RiffTra Plan Nine, Friday is out for a drink after work with some friends, Saturday is not gaming (a full day in the house! Yay!) and work Sunday. So much to look forward to.
Okay, shower and then sleep. (Are we clear sub-conscious? Clear messages or dreamless sleep! Thank you!) Later!

*exhales*
So I've got a couple of free days coming up which I am very much looking forward to. I'm planning on taking off the 18th so I'll actually have a full weekend off for the first time in a couple of months. :D
Got some stuff to look forward to, too! This Thursday, my brother and I are going to catch an encore presentation of RiffTrax doing Plan 9 from Outer Space. If you're not familiar with RiffTrax, it's the project that the guys who did MST3k have been working on lately.
This coming weekend, I'm taking Saturday off from gaming and just staying home for a day. It's been far too long since I've had a day to just bum around the house and I deperately need one such day. I know that I'm going to wind up waking up at 8 in the morning unnecessarily which will be completely irritating, but that's alright. I'm not going to leave the house at all no matter what. :)
The following week, my brother and I are going to NJ Saturday evening for a Rock Band meet up which I'm sure will be much fun. The following weekend is Video Games Live, I think. I have to find my tickets. -_-
In other news, It looks like January is move out time. I'm getting myself ready for it anyways. If it doesn't happen, it doesn't happen, but that's my goal. :)
Still gotta watch this week's episode of Flash Forward, just haven't had the time.
And oh yeah, my brother and I are number 3 on the overall vocal harmonies leaderboards for RB: Beatles! I'm pretty pumped about that. ^_^
I've also been having some weirdly vivid dreams lately. Weird mostly because they're very visual, which is atypical for me. I'm too lazy to type them out now, though maybe I will at some point. I probably won't, since that would take up too much time, but who knows.
Uhm... I think that's all the random stuff I wanted to share. Hope all's well with you. :)

So, I had moments of irritation and amusement and today. I'll start with amusement.
I forgot how to spell my last name.
Ah, shhh, hold your tongue! There's a perfectly good explanation! They were updating the extensions list for work today, so the person doing that stopped me and asked me to spell my last name.
Now, you know how you speak in certain patterns? You know, when you give a phone number including the area code, you speak it sort of sing songy, always with the same pauses? 1 (space) 234 (space) 567 (space) 89 (smaller space) 01. It's always the same rhythm.
Well, it's the same thing with names, I guess. Normally, when I spell my last name, I'd speak it a-b-c (space) d-e-f. For some reason today I took a space after the first 2 letters and stood there dumbfounded as I didn't remember what came next. Then I started over with the proper rhythm and all was fine. :)
Now for irritation. I got to work early because I had promised several students I would be in in time for their lunch hour (11:40-12:40) so they could start working on some papers. I get there and there's a sign on the door that says "Library closed to students".
Wha?
Apparently someone decided at the last minute that there needed to be an admissions meeting and put said meeting in the library without giving me any warning. >.< Besides that, they were supposed to be done at noon (my normal opening time, which would make things less frustrating since at least they wouldn't be encroaching on my hours), but no, they stayed in there till 12:40. I was most certainly not a happy camper! I wound up running into the only other staff member under 30 and we spent the 40 minutes while I was displaced just complaining about things. Fun fun.
Otherwise, I think I'm getting a little bored. Not insofar as being up and out and doing things, but insofar as my brain being exercised. Need to find some more mental stimulation, I think!
At least I didn't have to work from home tonight! I had time to play Beatles:RB on drums for a bit and now I'm downloading Bust-A-Move because I freakin' love Bub and Bob. :)

[29 Sep 2009|09:39am] |
Sleep definitely cures most ills.
I've slept more than 8 hours each of the last 4 nights and I feel *great*. I still feel a little overwhelmed, mostly because I don't have a day off until November and the 6 day work week is still wearing me down, but things are generally much, much better.
The weekend was excellent. I met Jim on Sunday and he had a list of things to do. We started with the tour of the NY Public Library since we're both librarians and this seemed like an appropriate thing to do. I've done the tour before, but it was nice to do again since this guide gave some different information and the exhibits in the library had changed.
After that we did lunch and took a cab uptown (something which I've never done) to go to the Frick collection (something which I've never seen). The Frick is basically the private collection of a man who lived in the late 1800s and early 1900s. It was actually really nice because the whole art museum thing plays against the backdrop of the building having been someone's private residence. It sort of reminded me of Casa Loma in Toronto in that respect.
We decided after that to walk downtown. Jim apparently is a fan of Tiffany's, so we stopped in the Tiffany & Co. store. I learned that diamonds really aren't exciting to me. It may have been the over-eager sales reps that did it ("you mean you DON'T know about the Tiffany's blue box? Every woman recognizes THAT!"), but I really think it's just that diamonds are really expensive and you can get someone a dozen other things that are more meaningful than that one diamond necklace. It saves money AND shows you've been paying attention.
We finished the evening at Top of the Rock, the observation deck at Rockefeller Center. I was very glad that the plexiglass is especially high. I realize that I don't have a fear of heights, I have a bizarre fear of a lack of impulse control, which is strange since I'm generally not impulsive. I just look down and think "hrm, going over this would be bad, but free fall probably feels cool." o_O The high glass made it so I could totally enjoy the view without that bizarre fear lurking around the edges of my mind.
Sunday was pretty nice as well. I worked and then went *shudder* clothing shopping. Thankfully I was able to find what I needed really quickly and get out. I'd still like to find a suit jacket, but the only one I came across when I popped into the Macy's near work was $219. hahahahaha, no.
The rest of this week is looking to be nice. I'm meeting Andy for dinner on Thursday and then Andy, Pete, Alan, and I are going to catch the Mets game this weekend. And Hockey starts this week!! Finally. :D
Alrighty, breakfast time. Later!

[24 Sep 2009|08:12pm] |
So I was asked to work tonight, but there's nothing to do. Yay!
Things have been *busy* lately. I work at the library, come home, work at home, and sleep. This is good in that I'm finally getting a good paycheck, but bad in that I've been really stressed lately. :( I think that's getting better though as I'm settling into things.
Some people from Buffalo are coming in over the next couple of weeks, which will be awesome! Jim will be in this weekend and we're going to check out... some modern art museum or another that has a Kandinsky exhibit. I'm not much a fan of modern art (I just don't get it!), but you can't see collections like the ones you see here in NYC in Buffalo, so I'll go. Then Andy's coming in next week, which will be nice. I'm sure we'll grab dinner one night. I think we might hang out next weekend since Alan and Pete are coming in to visit as well. Yay for stuff to look forward to!!
In the free time I've had, I've been playing much Beatles Rock band. My brother and I have been rocking the vocal harmonies and are actually ranked number 1 overall in a couple of songs! I know it really means nothing, but it's still kinda cool to me! :D
Speaking of Beatles:RB, I purchased a Beatles: RB Gretsch Duo-Jet guitar controller today and it is awesome. The fret buttons are quiet, the strum bar is quiet, it's wireless, and it auto-calibrates! Total Win.
Also got to watch a little TV lately. I saw the premiers of Law and Order:SVU and House. Law and Order's season opener was... meh. I felt like they were trying to do to much in one show. A new ADA, an outside officer with a fairly large role, a whole plot about wrongful convictions. It just felt muddied as opposed to interesting.
House, on the other hand, was awesome, but that's mostly because Hugh Laurie is amazing and this was basically his showcase episode. The other major doctor in this episode was also really well portrayed. It's always interesting seeing a character written who is able to think as many steps ahead as House does.
I wanted to catch Flash Forward tonight, but I forgot. -_- Anyone watch it? Any opinions?
Hope you all are well. :)

[17 Sep 2009|09:53am] |
Ok, yesterday was a weird day pretty much throughout. Today is already feeling better.
So, apparently I have a department heads meeting to attend today. The person who told me read my confusion perfectly and told me simply "Well, you're a department of one, so you should be at the meeting.:"
Ah, right.
I don't mind so much, but the library's only open 5 hours a day and I already had to close it for 2 hours yesterday and now another hour today. It's not that the students aren't using it. I got in early yesterday so I could take care of a couple things and I was barely off the elevator when people were asking me to open right then. On top of that, I actually had to kick students out 15 minutes past closing. This module is almost over and the students have papers due and I really hate to deprive them of access, but I guess there's little I can do.
Topic change! According to the USPS tracking number, one of my microphones should be here today! Well, at least, I would guess it should be since it made it to Brooklyn this morning. I'm so excited to finally play the harmonies in Beatles: RB. :D Oh, and further update. That mic is right here in Maspeth! Sweet. :D
Alrighty, I'd better get moving. I've decided it's completely worth it to leave 5 minutes early so I can grab an iced latte from Dunkin' Donuts even though it's 55 degrees out (yay fall!).
Have a wonderful day! ^_^

Last week was busy. Monday was Ren Fair. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday involved working from 10-3, running home, and working from 6-11 followed by Beatles: RB. Friday was another 10-3 work day followed by Cary's Birthday at the Astoria Beer Garden (Which was awesome! I actually found a beer I like!). Saturday was gaming, and Sunday brought more work. Finally, yesterday for the first time in a week and a half a fell asleep at a reasonable hour and woke up the next morning (today) feeling fully refreshed and ready to go.
Mostly I'm posting because I finished Twilight, which was terrible. I started formulating a snarky little letter to the author in my brain at work this afternoon and figured it might be fun to flesh out for a post here. It's fairly long though, so feel free to skip, but feel free to peruse if you'd like. :)
( An open letter to Stephanie Meyer )
Did anyone see 9 by the way? I'm being displaced from the library on Wednesday and have to fill in two hours and I think that's the only movie short enough for me to watch in that span and get back to work within two hours. Best part is I get to do this on the clock, but I don't want to take too much advantage of my getting paid to not be at work-edness.
Alright, I'm off. Good night guys and gals! :)

[07 Sep 2009|11:32pm] |
First off, I hope you all had a wonderful labor day. :D
My weekend was actually pretty busy. Saturday was gaming as usual, but the group was really small this week due to a couple of people needing to miss for whatever reason. We didn't actually fight anything, but despite that this was probably the best DnD session I've ever been to. Yes, my character had probably the worst day of his life, but it was so much fun to RP in a smaller group and all. Ah, gaming, the great escape, heh. ;)
I went into work on Sunday and got the low down on the work at home thing. I'm basically free to use my own judgment so far as when I work, so long as I complete whatever work there is to do Monday and Tuesday nights. Sweet deal. The only not so sweet thing is I finally had enough with my lappy (there's something wrong with the battery adapter port), so I went and bought a brand new lappy! This time I've got a Dell. I haven't owned a Dell since I bought one before I started undergrad and that was probably my favorite computer ever. It's a little weird using the new laptop now because the touchpad is placed off to the side and the screen ratio is different from my old one, but I loves it anyway. Yay for the new laptop! ^_^
Today I met Frank and Melissa and we went to the Renaissance Fair. It was awesome. None of us are the dress in costume/mingle with the actors types, so we just relaxed and saw a couple of the shows (this one guy in particular- Dexter Tripp- was amazing. He juggled a chainsaw and a sword. Awesome) and sat around drinking (mostly non-alcoholic) beverages. I also bought one of those fancy candles they sell because it was very pretty (and candles are, by their nature, shiny) and it wasn't scented, which is a plus for my allergy suffering self.
This week is looking busy. Tomorrow is work at both jobs and the official release of Beatles: Rock Band!! :D So the plan is work job A, come home, work job B, go to Gamestop, get the game, and come home and play. I'll start the evening going through the game with my brother, though I'm also excited to play it online. I hadn't pulled a long XBox Live night in a loooooong while before I did so last week sometime and I'd forgotten how much fun it could be. Definitely looking forward to doing that again soon!
The following morning, there's a launch party for the remastered Beatles tracks going on at a Best Buy in Manhattan about a half hour from where I work. This week being one where there are no students, I have to be in by 10AM (boo!), so the plan is to get up by 7 to get into the city for the start of the album release party at 8 (they're supposedly giving free stuff) and then head straight to work. I'll get out at 3, be home by 4, probably crash for a bit and then play more Beatles:RB.
Thursday's free and then Friday is Cary's Birthday Bash at the Astoria beer garden. Should be awesome.
And then it's time for another weekend. It's a good thing I prefer being busy. o_O
And now, it's bed time... and the new lappy's battery is going to run out of juice soon (though it's been off the charger for nearly 4 hours!) so it needs a recharging.
Night all! :)

I post this because I've always liked Okami's design. That and the fact that I felt the need to share its incredible cuteness. XD
Played GH5 some yesterday. It's definitely an improvement over previous Neversoft developed GH titles for a variety of reasons. It finally feels like Neversoft stepped out of trying to work in HMX's engine and just did their own thing. Good for them. Vocals are still broken and the track list is a little lackluster (well, it is for me), but those are the only major complaints I can come up with and I tend to be pretty harsh on the GH games so take that for what it is.
All of this is just an appetizer to RB:Beatles, anyways. :D
Speaking of, one of the Best Buys participating in the Beatles box set release party is in Manhattan, so it looks like the plan is get the game at 12:01 AM Wednesday, come home and play for a couple of hours, wake up at 7AM after catching a few hours of shut eye so I can get to the Best Buy by 8, hang out there till 9ish and then work till 3. Then I'll probably nap and play Beatles RB for the rest of the night. :)
I saw Ponyo tonight and it was really, really sweet. It was nice to see a Miyazaki film that didn't have such dark overtones. The voice casting and direction was also excellent. Definitely go see it if you can.
And I didn't ignore your Twilight related comments in the last post guys. I'm still working on getting through the book and don't want to say anything one way or the other till I do. If the current pattern holds true though, avoid the book like it was.... something highly unpleasant. ;)

The Beatles- And Your Bird Can Sing |

My first job is letting me work online from home. Very awesome since that means I'll be earning a little more money.
Also, on the weeks where the other campus library is closed, I've been asked to open the Brooklyn library from 10-3 every day. That means I can put in more hours in my at-home job, which is pretty sweet. That also means I don't have to spend that week working twice as many hours at job A so that I can make what I make in half the time at job B.
So far things are really good at the library. I went in and talked to all of the classes yesterday and, as a result, wound up with a full house later in the afternoon. Now, keep in mind a full house is 10 people, but still. That's quite a way from seeing 2 people in a day.
Now the other things part of the post. :)
Batman Arkham Asylum is pretty awesome! The battle with Scarecrow and the stuff leading up to it actually freaked me out a little. Very nicely done, Eidos. I think I may go rent GH5 today (thanks for the post, Dex!), but that depends on if I can drag myself to blockbuster before work. Who wants to leave the house before noon? Also, Kai lent me Final Fantasy Dissidia, which I have yet to try. My brother raved about the intro cinematic, though.
I'm going to go see Ponyo tomorrow. I've really enjoyed the other Miyazaki films and this one, while it seems trippy, seems to be somewhat less dark throughout. That's definitely something I'm looking forward to.
I've been gallantly suffering through reading Twilight. Oh my god, the literary terror! How did this book earn so many accolades? :O I read one chapter per bus trip. At this rate, I'll get done in two weeks... if I can keep going without my eyes vacating my head in an attempt to help me not lower my what-should-I-read standards too much.
Alright... still time to... do.... stuff. Better find stuff to do. :)

Okay, gonna get the sad thing out of the way.
I should be in San Diego now, enjoying the last day there before heading to LA in the morning. *sigh*
Anyways, this has otherwise been a very good week!
Lessee, already wrote about starting the new job, so I'll start with more on that
So far, so good! Every day, more and more students and professors are stopping by the library, which is awesome. I've been in a half hour early the last couple of days and each day there are already students waiting to get in. I mostly help with basic problems with Microsoft Word, but I just received info on a couple of papers the students have to work on, so I'm going to find some resources for the students today so I can have them readily available.
The library is an organizational wreck, so that's my big project for now. Shifting books without the help of a book truck is hard work! My arms are killing me after doing so little. ;_; But it has to be done. :) After that I have to go through the video and DVD collection and see what needs updating. It's nice to have work to do so I'm not just sitting there in between things.
Also, the librarian at the other campus feels I'm being underpaid (and remember they gave me more than I asked for!), so after three months, so long as things work out (which they will) I can expect a raise. Sweet!
Now for non-library things:
District 9 was incredible!!! I'm so happy I went back to see the rest of it. I really think it was the best movie I saw this summer. The pacing was pretty much perfect in that it just kept building to a frenzied (and extended) crescendo. Just awesome to watch. And I love that Wikus, even as the movie is drawing to its climax, still retains that essential selfishness that guided his actions. He certainly was not a perfect hero, and the script and acting doesn't let you forget that.
The only thing in the movie that I didn't care for was that the alien tech seemed to have a homing laser for all humans except the leader of the military forces. I understand he was being played up as the major villain in the immediate sense (as opposed to the larger statement about the aliens conditions), but I think that just made it all the more frustrating that everyone around him was obliterated by a flesh seeking lightning bolt while he somehow managed to not be struck by a dozen or so rounds of the stuff.
In all honesty though, I think that was just frustrating because, above everyone else, he's the one you want to see taken down but it just kept not happening. But it does eventually, and satisfyingly so.
Moving on, I finally beat Shadow Complex last night. Seriously, best XBLA game... maybe ever, definitely this year. It's a little peculiar that the map shows itself at 100% even when there are clearly still places to go. o_O Anyways, if you have a 360 and don't own it, at least give the demo a try. It's a great game. :)
12 days till Beatles: Rock Band. :D
Okay, I think I'm going to start Arkham Asylum. Have a nice weekend! :)

It's 10:30AM on a day that isn't Saturday and I'm still home. I love my new schedule. :D
I started my new job yesterday and it seems like it's going to be just fine. There's a problem with the circulation system that I'm going to go in early today to try and sort out, but everything else went smoothly.
Is it weird that I'm really satisfied to actually have my own extension because that means that when I have to fill in a work number on paperwork, it's not just a generic number for everyone? Tee hee. :D
Yesterday was mostly a paperwork day at work actually. I got set up in the computer system so I have access to everything I need to have access to and I got the keys to the library and my school email account already. I also got my schedule, which is different from what I had thought it would be. I work 12-5 Wednesday and Thursday and 2-7 the other three days. This pretty much precludes me from working my other job (except on Sundays) so I'm just taking this as a sign that I may have been setting myself up to bite off more than I can chew.
After work I came home and hung out for a while before going out to get bubble tea boba (thought I'd save you the trouble, Dex :P) and hang out at Gamestop for the midnight release of Batman Arkham Asylum. It was actually pretty fun. Spent the entire hour and a half there chatting to people about games, movies, the Simpsons, and religion (oh, jaded video game types, hehe), which was cool. I also found out while there that they are actually doing a midnight release for Beatles: RB on the 9th, so I will totally be there for that. :D Then I got the game and went home and... promptly fell asleep.
Hrm... I still have two hours before I leave for work. Maybe I'll get some play time in. :D
